LGBTQ fraternities and sororities have existed since the s, with Delta Phi Upsilon being established in and Delta Lambda Phi in Recently, it has come to my attention that more and more openly gay men are joining fraternities. As a first-generation, gay student from the rural North, I understand the appeal of joining a fraternity. Finally being accepted by a group of masculine straight men would be a dream come true to a young gay kid who never fit in.
As the first fraternity founded by openly-queer men for men and nonbinary collegians of all sexualities and identities, Delta Lambda Phi has a legacy of working toward justice and building inclusive community. The problem is, as indicated on the title of this thread, I am not particularly…fond of women in a way that heterosexuals are. So, just to give more information as to what I should do, I will tell you a little bit about myself and the reasons of why I want to join.
